In 2018 I participated in a collaborative show pairing research from scientists at Duke with local artists. This piece, titled Seeing, is my response to research investigating the visual capacity of sea urchins. Through decentralized processing along a simple nerve structure, sea urchins have the ability to sense light—“seeing” without eyes. My piece is a visual hypothesis to the question of how it would feel to experience the world like a sea urchin.
